Who We Are and What We Do

In 2004 Robert Barnett, Vaughn Stratford, and Chuck Stuckey started the San Rafael Public Library Foundation with one purpose in mind – to replace the Library building with a technologically superior facility that would house the Library’s extensive collection and better serve the needs of our growing community.

Since then, the Foundation has attracted friends, directors, and volunteers working together to make the dream of a beautiful new public library a reality.

The Foundation’s Mission is to build a library for the 21st century, to furnish and maintain it, and to secure its future for generations to come.

The Foundation is working to
  • Promote the construction and furnishing of a library building that will better meet our population’s current and future needs well into the 22nd Century.

  • Raise money from foundation, business, and individual donors to supplement, not replace, the public funding crucial to a well-functioning library.

  • Forge lasting partnerships with the Library, the City, San Rafael residents, our business community, and other stakeholders.

  • Educate the public about the tremendous potential in a modern, expanded, and fully-featured Library.

  • Focus attention on problems inherent in today’s San Rafael Public Library and the public’s responsibility to maintain a strong library system.
